Why Routines Matter

Mike

Having a routine gives me a daily structure, and that is something you need if you’re going to walk forward in life with a bipolar disorder.

Matt

I think having routine, waking up at the same time, going to bed around the same time, I have found that being instrumental in my mental health, my sanity. I know what to expect.

Mike

Over the years, routine has saved me and it’s been something that I’ve spent extra attention on.

Matt

Once I started enacting that routine in my life, I found, at first, I didn’t realize how much it impacted me positively. And then over time, I would say a few weeks, a few months into it, that I definitely, I realized that, hey, this is great. I wake up at a reasonable hour, I wake up and I know what I’m doing.

Mike

If you’re just starting out, I would map out like the three things you’re going to do in your day, which is your priority work, which is your exercise. Get some social time in there, but definitely account for rest.

Matt

Especially for those that think that structure is not right for them, it might be just exactly what you need.

Routine is one component of an overall approach/management plan.

Ask your healthcare provider what may be right for you.
